The Why Behind

Healing Spaces Title

Healing Spaces: Wellness for Marginalized Communities is an event designed specifically for Black, Brown, and other marginalized communities, providing a safe, inclusive, and accessible healing space. This event aims to break down barriers to wellness by offering holistic resources, wellness practices, and community-building opportunities for those who have historically had limited access to these services.

Our mission is to create an environment where Black and Brown individuals can heal, connect, and thrive through a variety of wellness activities. We believe that wellness is not just about physical health, but also about mental and emotional well-being. By fostering a space where participants feel supported, valued, and empowered, we aim to make a lasting impact on their overall health.

"Healing Spaces: Wellness for Marginalized Communities is crucial because it provides an accessible and inclusive space for marginalized communities, addressing the specific barriers they face in accessing mental health care.

Trauma shows up differently in Black and Brown communities, and it’s vital that we offer flexible, culturally sensitive care that acknowledges these unique experiences.

I’m excited about this event because it’s not just about healing in a traditional sense—it’s about recognizing the work we’ve always been doing to heal and giving it a name.

It’s empowering to create a space where we can affirm each other’s healing journeys, break down the stigma around mental health, and provide practical tools for wellness and resilience."

"As a trauma-focused therapist passionate about supporting marginalized communities, I’ve seen firsthand how deeply trauma impacts both the body and mind.

In our communities, we’re often told that trauma makes us stronger and that we should just push through it—but the truth is, many of us are carrying open wounds that affect every part of our lives.

Trauma can show up in our bodies as chronic pain, exhaustion, or always feeling like we have to be on high alert.

I’ve worked with neurodivergent individuals who have had to process trauma caused by the barriers and disadvantages society has placed before them, making healing even more important.

That’s why Healing Spaces was created—to offer a safe, welcoming space where people can release tension, reconnect with themselves, and find healing through movement, breath-work, and community.

Along with these practices, we’ll also share valuable resources and information on how to process trauma, reclaim a sense of safety in the body, and build lasting well-being."
